HEALTH/Device detects HIV/AIDS in 15 minutes


The Smartphone device, designed by engineers at the Columbia University of New York, provides HIV screening in 15 minutes. It has already been tested on 96 patients in Rwanda.

It is an invention that may be mostsuccessful in the fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic. These researchers have developed an accessory attached to a Smartphone that can detect AIDS and syphilis within 15 minutes. From a drop of blood from the finger of the individual, the unit reproduces all the mechanical, optical and electronic functions of an analytical laboratory to detect the presence of HIV antibodies.
