LIBYA UN asked to lift arms embargo to fight IS


The UN member Arab Group presented a draft resolution on Wednesday, calling for the lifting of the arms embargo to enable Libya to fight against the IS.

The proposal aims to help the country, torn between two governments, to counter the rise of the jihadist Islamic State group. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Libya, Mohammed Al-Dairi, said: “Libya needs the international community to show determination to help us strengthen our national military capabilities and that means to lift the arms embargo so that our army can receive equipment and weapons to fight against terrorism.”
