RUSSIA Government opponent sentenced to 15 days in jail


Alexei Navalny, arrested while distributing leaflets in Moscow last week, was sentenced on Thursday to fifteen days in custody. This sentence could prevent him from participating in his 1 March event,

during which he intended to condemn the policy of the Russian government that is busy sinking the country into an economic crisis. The Russian authorities justified his arrest, stating he was violating the conditions of a previous conviction prohibiting him from participating in public demonstrations.
