Second hospital deals with "superbug"

Nearly 70 patients in Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai hospital may have been infected by a "superbug" resistant to antibiotics. The presence of carbapenemEnterobacteriahas already been diagnosed in four people being treated in the facility. This comes after a similar warning was issued in another hospital in the city: two patients died from contamination. In both cases, the bacteria appear to have been transmitted by the surgical instruments used to diagnose and treat problems in the pancreas and the gallbladder.
