Air strikes to protect ancient sites
March 9 th, 2015
The Iraqi government has requested an international coalition led by the United States against the Islamic state on Sunday to launch air strikes to prevent further destruction of archaeological sites by jihadists. The coalition, which led 2,800 strikes since August in Iraq and Syria, is not doing enough to save the historical heritage of Iraq, said Tourism and Antiquities Minister Adel Al-Fahd Cherchab . "What I ask [from] the international community and the international coalition is to hit terrorism wherever it is," he said.
