Series of capital executions

March 17 th, 2015

Ten people who were sentenced to death were hanged in Pakistan Tuesday. This is the highest number of executions in a single day since the lifting of the moratorium on the death penalty in December, which had been in force since 2008. Two convicts were hanged in Karachi, two in Rawalpindi near Islamabad, and six in central Punjab province, bringing the number of executions since mid-December in the country to thirty-seven. The authorities partially lifted the moratorium on the death penalty for terrorism cases, in response to an attack by the Taliban which killed 54 people.
