Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered the closure of land and maritime borders. The announcement was made Wednesday by the Ministry of the Interior. The measure will be implemented prior to the presidential and legislative elections to be held Saturday, 28 March. Border closures will take effect at midnight (23am GMT Wednesday) until the same time on Saturday, "for the peaceful implementation of the upcoming national elections," the statement said. Nigeria has land borders with Benin, Cameroon, Chad and Niger.
