A new corruption scandal

Several companies in Brazil are the subject of an investigation of a probable corruption network that diverted some $ 5.9 billion of the treasury, according to police, while another scandal around the oil giant Petrobras, also shook the country. Operation "Zelotes" (false jealousy) conducted by the federal police, focuses on Carf, an agency under the Ministry of the Budget, judging ultimately the penalties imposed by the IRS. Some Carf officials have accepted or asked for bribes from big companies, which had to pay fines of millions of dollars in taxes, in exchange for allowing them to avoid some or all of the sanctions.
