Karimov assured of getting a fourth term

March 28 th, 2015

Except an unlikely surprise: the immovable Uzbek President, Islam Karimov, has bee re-elected Sunday as head of state for a fourth term. His dictatorship has been marked by nepotism he came into power in 1989. The ballot strongly resembles previous elections: muzzled media, repressed opposition and competitors reduced to the role of tenure. In 2007, despite the constitutional limit of two presidential terms, Karimov was re-elected for a third time with 90.76% of the votes.
