Democracy activists on trial for terrorism

Wigdan Mekki follows reports from Paris of the ongoing trial of his uncle, Amin Mekki Madani, found in Khartoum. The fate of the lawyer (76), who’s in poor health, has not yet been sealed but Wigdan Mekki fears the worst. A figure of the Sudanese civil society, Amin Mekki Madani has long worked for international institutions. From Gaza to Beirut, via Zagreb, Kabul or Baghdad, he was a regional representative of the Office of Human Rights of the UN and legal advisor to the Secretary General. But he has never abandoned his fight for democracy and human rights in his own country, Sudan.
