Anti-rats brigades against plague

Besakay is perched on the central highlands of Madagascar, isolated in a dense forest. About 150 people live there, mostly children. All inhabitants are fed on rice and fishery products from freshwater springs that flow down from the mountain. In this area devoid a health centre, a pregnant woman, her husband and a child died in January from the plague.  The plague is an endemic disease that reappears every year from October and April when the rains occur on the island for the past 30 years.
