Radioactive substance stolen

Iridium-192, a radioactive substance used in industry, was stolen on Monday night at Cardenas, in the Mexican state of Tabasaco. According to the Ministry of the Interior, who alerted the civil protection units in five provinces (Tabasco, Campeche, Chiapas, Oaxaca and Veracruz), the substance was transported in a van. The army, navy and federal police were also on alert. Used in industrial radiography, iridium-192 can be very dangerous if not handled according to the appropriate security protocols.
