Alcohol sales banned in small shops

The Indonesian government has banned the sale of beer and other low alcoholic beverages in small shops as of Thursday. This measure concerns 55,000 retailers and supermarkets. Indonesia is the most populous Muslim country in the world. The vast majority shop owners not sell hard liquor because of the difficulty in obtaining the necessary permits. Indonesian beer is most consumed in the country. People must now go to supermarkets and department stores to buy their drinks while hotels, restaurants and bars are not affected by the ban.
