ANC MEC member, Tony Yengeni’s case was expected to continue yesterday. Yengeni’s attempt to persuade the Western Cape head of Prosecution to drop the charges against him, failed.

Law enforcement officials arrested him in August last year for speeding under the influence of alcohol with his Maserati in the Cape Town CBD. In addition, one of his number plates was missing at the time. He was released on R500 bail. Mayoral committee member JP Smith said that the record had figured 52 similar cases during the weekend operation. Yengeni has not yet pleaded to the charges.
