Gauteng - Safety has not been certain for Mohalakeng residents since Wednesday following the service delivery protest that turned violent.

February 6 th, 2015

Residents went on a rampage of vandalism, burning the local library and municipal building, including the mayor’s house. The protest started because of low service delivery by the RandfonteinLocalMunicipality. Residents have not been able to go to work because protesters throw stones at them. Foreign-owned shops were criminals’ target, even though the community has helped them to protect store houses. There was no assistance from the government and police while shops were looted. “We are safe if police were helping us” said one of the spaza shop owners,ToshomaJofama.
