Johannesburg–The electricity price will increase according to the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa).
February 6 th, 2015
The Nersa has given Eskom permission to go ahead and charge consumers more for power. The reason for the increase is to compensate for the extra diesel costs needed to cope with the electricity demand. Technical failure of the aging power plants has been the major reason for energy shortage. Currently battling to meet daily demand of 30,000MW, Eskom has to rely on diesel-powered turbines to keep the lights on.
