R20,000 fine for stealing four tins of Nestle NAN baby milk. Half of the fine is suspended for five years and Mthembu paid a R10,000 fine. The review was brought before the High Court. The NPA, questioned by the High Court on whether or not the sentence was appropriate, said the R20 000 fine was fair because based on the woman’s audacity to hide the four tins under her clothes and the fact that she paid R10,000 with ease. Mthembu has 24 prior convictions for theft. According to the NPA, a heavy sentence might help her get rid of her bad habit.
