Rural Development and Land Reform who clarified the matter. Foreign nationals will not be allowed to own SA land but will be eligible for long-term lease. President Zuma actually referred to the 82 million hectares of SA’s arable/productive land. He said it affects only productive land not residential property. SA farmers also are not permitted to own more than 12 000 hectares. If it does happen that land owners own more than 12 000 hectares of land, the government will buy the excess land and redistribute it.
