This year the event pays special tribute and honour to the founder of the race, Dr Ian Player, who passed away last year. Safety measures and precautions were implemented to safeguard paddlers and supporters. The marathon will last for three days. The organising committee had to fix the race rules due to poor water quality from sewage contamination and low water levels.
