Durban – 1,400 paddlers participated in the 64th Dusi Canoe Marathon in KZN since yesterday morning. The challenge is a 120km race of the Umsunduzi River.

This year the event pays special tribute and honour to the founder of the race, Dr Ian Player, who passed away last year. Safety measures and precautions were implemented to safeguard paddlers and supporters. The marathon will last for three days. The organising committee had to fix the race rules due to poor water quality from sewage contamination and low water levels.
