according to Finance MiniterNhlanhla Nene. The government could not adjust the sector if it broke up the monopoly of Eskom. The rise of electricity price is to acquire more revenues to support the suffering power utility and to change behaviour towards efficient use of energy. Tax measures are proposed to promote energy efficiency. Some electricity levies rises from 3.5c/kWh to 5.5c/kWh to assist demand management.
