Author severely traumatised by attack

Durban – The writer Zainub Dala was attacked by three unknown men the day after she was invited to the Chatsworth Education Centre to discuss schools and writing.  She responded to a question regarding her favourite writers, mentioning the Indian author Arundhati Roy and writer Salman Rushdie. Rushdie angered the Muslim community in 1988 with a book titled Satanic Verses, which was described as blasphemous towards Islam. The next day, Dala she was held at a knife point, hit with a brick that broke her cheekbone. She has been severely traumatised by the attack.
