Johannesburg – DA leader Helen Zille announced her resignation from office in a statement sent to APA Sunday. Zille said she will not be a candidate for re-election at the next congress in May. The chief of the opposition party said that the time has come to “give way to the young generation to lead the party”, while she will remain the Eastern Cape Governor, a DA stronghold, until 2029. Zille has been head of the Democratic Alliance since 2007. She briefly worked as a journalist before becoming an ant-apartheid activist in 1994 during the advent of a multiparty democracy.
