The Norwegian solar power plants manufacturer, Scatec Solar ASA, has a good chance of being awarded the contract for 258MW of solar power plants in South Africa. The central building will be located near Upington, north-east of Cape Town. Scatec Solar announced it had already arranged financing. Construction work should start in 2017 in case a different contract is attributed. The current proposed study shows 42% of the plants are from the Norwegian Investment Fund for Developing Countries and 18% and 40% from local communities. The program is part of the fourth phase of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement (REIPPP).
