Pretoria remembers Jewish martyrs

Pretoria – The Jewish community gathered in masse past Sunday with diplomats and Christian friends in Pretoria to remember Yom Hashoah. The commemoration was in memory of the Six Million Jewish, martyred by Nazis during World War Two. Names of children who fell during the race murder were cited by community members. Chairman of SA Jewish Board in Pretoria, Louis Pearlman and Deputy Ambassador Michael Freeman, gave a brief message on behalf of Israel. Stories of holocaust survivors were told. Poems were read and sang by the Pretoria Hebrew Congregation choir. To symbolise the eternal flame of hope, six memorial candles were lit. The South African national anthem and Hatikvah concluded the event.
