Vryheidsdag amid tumult

April 28 th, 2015

Pretoria - As the country commemorated Freedom day on 27 April, President Jacob Zuma has called SA to remember what’s been instituted 21 years ago. Held at the Union Buildings in Pretoria, thousands gathered for the event. Songs, dance and political slogans dominated the events in the midst of xenophobic violence, high unemployment, and protest over lack of services that SA is currently experiencing. Established by Nelson Mandela, the date commemorates the first democratic election in the history of South Africa with the entry of the new interim constitution between the De Klerk government and the representative of the ANC. “We are all Africans before we are South Africans” citizen Mthethwa keynoted on #FreedomDay201
