April 30 th, 2015
A new mobile app called We Are Africa has been launched by Science and Technology Minister, Naledi Pandor. The recently developed app’s message is “We all belong to Africa” or “Africa is us”. The platform aims to support the government’s efforts to fight against xenophobia. It allows reporting all acts of violence or potential threats against fellow Africans. The department explained that everything will be done in real time, so that security forces could intervene in time or enforce existing legislation. Developed but by Angolans and DR Congo nationals, SA ministry worked in partnership with Mobile Laboratory (M-Lab) in support of the campaign.
