May 22 nd, 2015

Tekwane - Two men, Skhumbuzo Mlangeni (27) and Philemon Chibi (25) of Pienaar Trust, Mbombela, was sentenced to 19 years imprisonment each for raping two women.  The women, both aged 21, were raped on 22 May during the day in the Tekwane North cemetery. The two accused pleaded guilty but the third accused, Mduduzi Nkosi (23) did not. Forced to take off their clothes, the two women were then raped in a bushy area. One of them was apparently still a virgin, according to reports. Although no injuries have been reported, the court witnessed the women’s severe emotional distress. The court has about 260 pending rape cases. Courts need to send a clear message that rape will no longer be tolerated.
