Childline talks about SA’s rape cases
May 23 rd, 2015
South Africa - According to statistics by Childline, one in three girls and one in five boys are victims of rape before age 18 in South Africa. Sexuality and violence goes hand in hand. Poverty, promiscuity, alcoholism and socio-economic conditions have been listed as some of the root causes. Sex and violence have become the only visible form of power in SA. In some local cultures, men tend to regard women and children as their property. Abuse is then practiced as a right of ownership. Children are exposed to pornography at a very young age, according to Childline. Many cases of sexual assault go unreported.
