Pretoria - Africa Day was celebrated at the University of Pretoria’s Mamelodi Campus on Sunday. President Jacob Zuma presided over the celebrations. Dignitaries were present alongside Gauteng Premier David Makhura and AU chairperson, Dr Nkosazane Dlamini-Zuma. The event started with the Organisation of African Unity’s anthem. President Zuma exhorted the public, schools and national choirs to learn the anthem and begin waving the AU and SA flags. The celebration mainly focused on the fight against xenophobia as 60% of tourists in SA are Africans. Zuma said SA is not xenophobic. The AU’s theme this year is: “We are Africa – Opening doors of learning and culture from Cape to Cairo”.
