Africa to withdraw ICC

May 29 th, 2015

Pretoria - African Union Chairman, Robert Mugabe, announced on Wednesday in Pretoria the continent’s withdrawal from the International Criminal Court (ICC). Mugabe’s address follows his official visit to SA that focused on economic cooperation with the country. Instead of the ICC, the Zimbabwean head of state proposed the creation of a continental court that will be known as the African Court of International Justice and Human Rights. The court is to judge criminal cases and violation of human rights in Africa. Mugabe hopes the proposal will be considered at the AU summit in June in Johannesburg, entitled “The Year of the Empowerment of Women and Development Agenda Towards 2063 in Africa”.
