June 8 th, 2015
Pretoria – There are several missing children across the city, according to statistics by Missing People SA on Thursday. Its data base shows 236 children are missing national wide, while 173 had been found, indicating success rate of 73%. Unfortunately 3.8% were found dead. In Gauteng, 108 children are still missing and 75 had been found. Eighty-nine percent are aged 13 to 17 and the rest between birth and 12 years old. Poverty, sexual gratification, retribution and human trafficking are factors of the scourge. Angie Motaung of ‘Bana Ba Kae’ said that parents only panic for younger children but when they are teenagers, they let it go. The economic imbalance causes them to get rid of their kids. The Child Protection Week campaign has been launched this week to keep SA’s children safe.
