Lion escapes from cage in Beaufort West

June 10 th, 2015

South West - Farmers in the proximity of the South African Karoo Desert Park were warned on Tuesday about the presence of a lion that has escaped from the reserve. Despite patrols and a helicopter’s help, the search for the escaped lion was unsuccessful. The 3-year-old lion had been rejected by its peers. He escaped through a hole in the fence of the Park on Friday, according to SAN Parks. The hole was caused by heavy rains. Dog trackers and handlers from the two nearby parks joined the search party. Air and foot patrols are still searching but rough terrain and several rivers have made the tracking difficult, said SAN Parks.
