SA fixes its image during AU summit

June 10 th, 2015

The 25th summit of the African Union (AU) opened today. It started with a meeting of Ministers, followed by heads of state on the weekend. The session will certainly focus on xenophobia, following a wave of attacks against foreigners in SA. Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe previously attacked SA’s handling of the xenophobic attacks, while President Jacob Zuma retorted that there would be no such violence if there were not so many Zimbabweans seeking to escape their country. No doubt that SA’s president will be held accountable, according to LieslLouw, a researcher at the Institute for Security Studies. “Our president will have to explain what makes South Africa and try to limit the damage to save SA’s image on the continent.”
