Court hears gruesome details of rape, child abuse
Nokuthula Moloi* was 13 years old and still a virgin when her uncle first raped her at gunpoint in 2006. Moloi tried to resist her rapist but gave up the fight when he threatened to shoot her. Moloi testified that her uncle used his one hand to point the firearm at her and his other hand to pull down her jeans and underwear. According to Moloi, he applied Vaseline to her genitalia before he raped her.
The girl told the court her uncle continued to rape her for a year until she fell pregnant by him in 2007. Moloi’s child with her uncle was born in 2008 and her grandmother chased her away shortly after Moloi gave birth. She was later forced to leave the child with his father, who continually assaulted the boy. The uncle’s ‘live-in-lover’ told the court on Tuesday that the father brutally assaulted the child, using his fists, broomsticks, and shoes. They boy was abused for nine months, and had not received any medical attention during the period of abuse. When asked why she didn’t report the abuse, the ‘live-in-lover’ told the court that she was afraid because her boyfriend was always by her side.
On the day of the child’s death, she said, the accused had discovered that the boy had defecated on himself. She said he shouted at the child before he started beating him. The helpless boy collapsed, bleeding from the nose. He died shortly afterwards. She also testified that the father ‘forcefully placed’ the child on her back and they went to dump his body in a nearby veld. The trial continues.
