Pretoria – White young South Africans were encouraged on Thursday to serve in the South African Army. The chief of the army, Lieutenant-General Vusi Masondo, explained that SA needs more white young men and women eradicate the racial imbalance in SA’s military. According to the Minister of Defence, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, SA goes to great lengths to implement government’s non-racial policies and to prevent a repetition of the country’s painful past. The Minister wants to prevent the undesirable situation of racial disproportion by one race group domination. Few whites joined the SANDF last month but not enough. Masodo also mentioned that the SA army faces budget constraints to support SA militaries in the other conflict-stricken African countries.
