SA gold mines start wage negotiations

Around 150 employers and employee representatives of four trade unions of the gold mining industry were expected to participate in the wage negotiation yesterday at the Birchwood Conference Centre in Boksburg in the East Rand. The first negotiation session will last until June 24. The second session will begin on June 29 and will run for three days. Four trade unions, including NUM,Amcu, Solidarity and Uasa will negotiate wage increments and other conditions of employment with AngloGold Ashanti, Evander Gold Mines, Harmony, Sibanye Gold and Village Main Reef. Gold producers will look for ‘common ground’ in terms of viability and sustainability. The companies together directly employ 94,000 people.
