MTN and workers still disagrees
June 24 th, 2015
The strike launched on May 20 by the Communication Workers Union (CWU) continues. CWU demands an annual salary increase for MTN workers that should include a bonus. Last week, MTN obtained an interdict to prevent strikers from blocking the entrance of the company and intimidating non-strikers. MTN Human Resources Director ThembaNyathi has called on CWU to end the strike. He called on the union to spare its members from unnecessary pain and unpaid wages over problems that could be resolved around the table. Chairman of CWU Clyde Mervin, however, responded that the strike will only end once an agreement has been formally signed with the union.
