"Blue Book" : forgotten genocide of the Herero and Nama
March 26 th, 2015
This is the story of a document in a forgotten library in Pretoria. The document is called the Blue Book. The name was given to an official report on the atrocities committed by German soldiers in Namibia. In 1904, the German General Lothar von Trotha signed an extermination order against the Herero and Nama who had the audacity to revolt. In four years, 70% of these populations disappeared and many were massacred. Others died of hunger, thirst and exhaustion in the Kalahari Desert, and in concentration camps.
