Homosexuals may not donate blood

Homosexuals should continue to be excluded from donating blood in France in the present state of knowledge, according to an opinion issued Tuesday by the National Ethics Committee, which shocked gay advocacy groups. “Blood donation is not a right. What counts is the health and protection of the recipient," according to the chairman of the Committee, who presented the findings requested by the French Health Minister. "The Committee considers that it is necessary to maintain the cons-indications" pending further scientific studies, and considered "essential" developments on information and accountability of donors.
