LEGACY Sea of blankets for Mandela Day

South Africans were encouraged to help knit, crochet and sew 21,000 blankets to celebrate the twenty-first anniversary of our democracy on 27 April.

April 19 th, 2015

The 67 blankets for Nelson Mandela Day campaign covered the ground of the Union Buildings in Pretoria. This is done in honour of Mandela but also gives calls for unity to fight the recent xenophobic attacks in the country. An aerial photograph of the sea of blankets will be taken to show the world that Madiba’s legacy is still alive, even though the country is in midst of a devastating situation. This project will warm up the world.
