Illegal cigarettes confiscated

Pretoria - Four men were arrested on Monday night for possession of illegal cigarettes around Church Street. Police received a complaint at 11pm, informing them that two cars were speeding in the area. A flying squad vehicle responded and came across two bakkies driving at high speed. The police managed to pull them over. Upon inspection the on of vehicles, police found 2,303 cartons of Chelsea cigarettes. The illegal products were allegedly destined for Midrand from Mokopane. The items are valuated at R680,000. Further investigation unveiled that the cars were stolen respectively in Backendowns near Alberton and Hartbeesport in the North West. The men are expected to appear before the Atteridgeville magistrate’s court soon.
