Mary Kay Fualaau (formerly Mary Kay Letourneau) was 34 when she had an affair with her 12-year-old student, Vili Fualaau.
She made international headlines in 1997 when she was impregnated by her student who was still under-aged at that time.
Crime and conviction
She pleaded guilty to two counts of second degree rape of a minor. She was sentenced to six months in the county prison and three years for sex offender treatment. Two weeks after completing her jail sentence, she had sex with Vili again and fell pregnant with their second child. She gave birth to her daughter in 1998 while still serving her sentence. Vili and Mary’s daughters were both born behind bars.
Marriage to Fualaau
By the time she was released from prison in 2004, Vili Fualaau was over 18. Vili then asked the court to revoke the non-contact order, a plea to which the court agreed. Vili and Mary got married in 2005, ten months after her release. Today, they are raising teenagers and will soon celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary. Mary is now 53 and Vili 31.
