Pretoria - One of the two Somali shopkeepers died at George Mukhari Hospital after being torched in in Sohanguve. Ismail was discharged from hospital but Ibrahima did not survive from the 80% burns he sustained. Last week, nine people were arrested in Groot Drakensten. Charged with assault, damage and theft, the South Africans from Mbekweni informal settlement appeared in the Paarl Magistrate's Court. Paarl’s deputy mayor, Conrad Poole, and Mayor, Gesie van Deventer, condemned xenophobic violence. The real problem behind the tension was explained to be poverty and poor service in SA as locals blame foreigners of ‘stealing’ their jobs.
