Hand hygiene campaign launched

May 4 th, 2015

Pretoria – Health professionals’ hand hygiene campaign was launched to reduce hospital health-care facility infection. The Pretoria event was launched yesterday at most of SA’s public and private healthcare institutions to enforce hand hygiene. The health department suggested that health workers should wash their hands when caring for patients. Patients should insist that doctors must not touch them unless their hands are clean. The campaign is part to World Health Organisation’s campaign. The WHO announced in November 2014 that 5 May will be the Global Health Professionals Hand Hygiene Day. It is proven that consistent hand washing prevents the spread of infection such as trachoma, influenza and Ebola.
