War-birds criss-cross SA’s sky

May 6 th, 2015

Pretoria – A race between the Gautrain and an Alouette II helicopter was staged on Tuesday in preparation for the upcoming air show on Saturday at Zwartkops Air Force Base. The race started at the Gautrain’s Pretoria station and ended in Centurion. Some say the train won but SABC, filming the contest, said the chopper had won. The air show’s objective is aimed at showing SA’s children the host of career opportunities available in aviation. It will generate funds for SA Air Force museum as well. The showcase marks the ninety-fifth anniversary of SA aviation and 21 years in a democratic SA. The show gets bigger and better every year. This year, about 100 aircrafts will entertain the public, demonstrating SA’s war-birds’ capabilities and the aviation skills of the pilots.
