Strike against the rise of electricity
May 6 th, 2015
The rise in electricity price by state-owned Eskom resulted on Wednesday in fires across Soweto. Several hundred people demonstrated their anger in the township outside Johannesburg. The area was covered with smoke and flames. Angry residents threw stones at police who retaliated with rubber bullets. Protestors blocked Vilakazi and Khumalo Streets, as well as Klipspruit Valley Road with burning tyres and boulders. Eskom, on the other hand, has been complained about the accumulation of unpaid bills. The unpaid bill has reached R4billion for the municipality of Soweto with 1.5 million inhabitants.
