May 12 th, 2015
The seven largest car manufacturers in SA, including Ford, BMW and Toyota, should invest R7.5bn in SA’s car industries in 2015. The announcement was issued on 7 May by the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA). Johan van Zyle, president of NAAMSA, marvelled at the magnitude of the investment that shows the warm commitment between multinational companies operating in the automotive industry in South Africa. The automotive industry accounts for 6% of the country’s GDP and represents 12% of its exports. About 40% of car production is intended to cover the needs of SA’s market.
