Cop accused of raping stepdaughter

A police officer accused of sexually molesting and raping his stepdaughter, admitted that he engaged in an incestuous relationship with his cousin, the High Court sitting in Palm Ridge heard on Tuesday.

The girl, who is now 17, testified earlier this month of how she was sexually assaulted by her stepfather when she was six. She testified that she was forced to touch and kiss his genitals on different occasions before he raped her. Nonetheless, the girl, whose identity cannot be disclosed, said she had reported the incidents to her mother only four years later, in 2009, claiming she was too scared of her aggressive stepfather’s reactions.

The accused denied allegations that he walked into his stepdaughter's bedroom and asked her to give him a good night kiss on his penis, while his wife was taking a shower. He told the court that he attended a function earlier that night with his wife and her child and that he consumed alcohol at the function. The accused testified that he mistakenly walked into the girl’s bedroom, thinking it was the bathroom which was across her room.

He denied allegations that he asked the girl for a kiss and to lick his penis. He also denied that he was with the girl in her bed or that he asked her to put her mouth around his penis.

Love child

The officer admitted during cross-examination that he had a love child with his cousin and that he knew incest was a crime. He testified that the relationship only lasted for six months and that he only realized the familial link after his cousin had fallen pregnant.

The officer further testified that the family went for counselling following the alleged toilet confusion incident, stating that things returned to ‘normal’ after the counselling sessions. He told the court that the couple’s marriage deteriorated around 2008 and that he informed his wife in 2009 that he wanted a divorce. The accused claims that his former wife broke a mirror and cut herself when he told her about the divorce. The court heard that he was engaged to another woman at the time when the charges were laid.

“I did not touch her…”

"I told her I did not touch her daughter", the accused told the court. The State reminded the accused that one of its witnesses, a medical doctor, had testified that the girl's vagina was torn by the age of 11."I don't know what caused the tears but I'm not the one who caused those tears", the accused said.
